Grub Street Literary Magazine

Working in Towson University Creative Services, I was given the opportunity to design the 73rd Vol. of Grub Street magazine. Grub Street is a literary magazine at Towson University run by undergraduate students enrolled in the Grub Street class. The class decides what poetry, nonfiction, fiction, and visual art would be going inside the magazine, but I was given creative freedom of how it would be designed. For the cover art, a sculpture called “Lady Love” by Judy Lewis, I wanted it to be the main focus and intertwined the title “Grub Street” within it. Inside the magazine, I wanted to create a warm and inviting feeling so the audience could connect with the book. One of the classes' main concerns was making sure that the text was legible, so the typeface I decided on for all writing pieces is Garamond Pro and for titles, I used Brandon Grotesk. The genres are split up by color with a leaf motif near the header as the indicator.
